This course develops the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the concept of ICT technical support management in an educational establishment. The strategy adopted is a process driven approach aimed at ICT operations in all sizes of educational institutions. The approach modularises the functionality of technical support under the broad categories of Reactive, Proactive, Change and Strategic. This Unit will benefit individuals involved in ICT technical support management in educational establishments and may include senior technicians, management, head teachers and supporting consultants. It is accredited by, and follows the syllabus specified by the FITS Foundation.
It culminates in a 40 question multiple-choice examination for the certificate.
Completion of the pre-course reading.
Involvement in the provision or receipt of IT Services in a school environment.

Performance Monitoring, Preventative Maintenance, Print and Output Management and Energy Conservation
Understand the purpose, scope and operation of performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, print and output management and energy conservation including recording, monitoring, and security and troubleshooting
Identify elements that result in reduced downtime, improved life expectancy, control of resources, improved safety conditions and quality
Identify the importance of energy conservation including optimising energy usage, reduction of carbon footprint, resource usage optimisation, legislation compliance and ICT investment optimisation
Storage Management and Directory Services Administration
Understand the purpose, scope and operation of storage management (including reliability, availability and security of services) and directory services administration (including monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting the directory).
Identify the main components of storage management and directory services administration including planning, measurement, monitoring, performance and implementation of maintenance contracts.
Financial Management in an Educational Establishment
Understand the purpose, scope and operation of financial management: tracking and control of the cost of ICT services and support, financial effectiveness and efficiency.
Identify the main components of financial management including investment appraisal, budgeting, accounting, charging and/or recharging based on a structured cost model.
Understand the financial management relationships and dependencies: service level management, and continuity management
